Jon
Born in Leicester longer ago than I care to remember I was fortunate to find
myself in a family where music was important. My sister would go on to be a
bassoonist in the BBC concert orchestra, my mum was a keen pianist and my dad
could take his shoes off and hum!
From this background and through my time at school I developed a keen interest
in all types of music. I have tried to play many instruments including viola
(failed due to RSPCA involvement, they thought I was torturing the cat!), piano
(failed as after 2 years of lessons I still couldn’t read music!) which I still
play by ear (although that does give me a stiff neck!) and bass guitar (failed
because I was rubbish!).
Anyhow I ended up forming band in the late eighties after taking part in a show
where a friend and I performed an Elvis tribute (don’t ask!). This band went
through various incarnations before we went in our different directions! No
musical difference just work commitments, however we do on occasions drag
ourselves out again!
That brings me to Escher. During the summer of 2003 an old friend and previous
bass player rang to ask if I would be interested in auditioning for a rock band.
After a certain amount of muppetry Escher was formed and took to the stage 2
weeks later.
And today…………..
